Autumn Glow

Autumn offers a good time to restart the exercise we put on hold over summer-it was just too hot.

It is also a time to get the body healthy and ready for winter.

For these who do suffer from cold hands and feet then perhaps just a simple remedy such as ginger-a small piece either crystallized or made into fresh ginger tea might be just what the herbalist orders to keep fingers and toes warmer this year.

Many of the traditional herbalists would give their patients a small amount of chilli tincture to ward off the winter chill.

Keeping your immune system up to scratch especially for young children can be a worry.

Echinacea spp. Root is a very effective way to reduce the severity of infections and prevent them occurring next time.

At the clinic we have Echinacea spp. Root in glycerine-tastes much nicer for children (and occasionally adults)

Having garlic in your diet is also a good way to decrease the volume of colds and sinus problems-add it to your vegetables just before serving for a good immunity boost.

Recipe

Garlic and lemon dressing for vegetables and salads.
1 clove of garlic-crushed with a little salt and pinch of sugar.
Juice of 1/2 lemon30mL
Olive oil.

Mix all together and pour over vegetable or salad just before serving. Can add fresh herbs to taste-basil or parsley is nice.
